On November 5th, our ROWW team touched down in Kingston, Jamaica, ready to help those in need! We started by gathering essential supplies in Santa Cruz and distributing them to the communities in Black River, Burnt Savannah, and very rural areas. The supplies we packed with us in the States was quickly donated and distributed to those in need. Our goal is to address the remote and very mountainous regions and help those that have yet to see relief. Our team used a small SUV to transport the needed and requested supplies. The team worked from daylight through dark to deliver diapers, food, solar lighting, and many other essentials.
In Bluefield, Jamaica, our team helped a local jerk chicken restaurant farmer repair the roof of his shelter and storage shed so that he could serve food to the village. After using a tarp to repair the damage, the team then helped the farmer distribute food and water to the locals. Helping this farmer will have a great impact on the community as a whole and serve the greater need there.
On Sunday November 9th, our team battled the remote hills of Spring Mount to bring food and supplies to the people of John’s Hall. Many families in the region were devastated by severe flooding and experienced unimaginable loss. We were the first disaster relief organization to help the village, and we provided them with much-needed food and supplies.
On Monday November 10th, Our long time supporter & family member of ROWW, Tyrese Gibson (Musician & Actor) & Mona Scott-Young joined our team in Jamaica with a plane full of essential supplies and communications devices. ROWW will spend the day distributing those devices and supplies to relief hubs, allowing remote regions to get reconnected to the internet and access greater relief resources. We also were able to secure water trucks that went to various parts of communities affected by the hurricane to provide much needed water; to wash themselves, or boil.
November 11th, the ROWW team, along with Tyrese Gibson & Mona Scott-Young, took a water truck to Flanker to supply a local medical center and surrounding community with water; to bath or boil. Distributed a second run of water to another neighborhood inside the same community. Part of the ROWW team was able to distribute supplies to the Anchovy & Lacovia area; Approximately 100 families served with essential items.
On November 12th, our team stocked up in Santa Cruz to do a food and water distribution in the townships of Siloh, Lacovia, and Burton. That evening, they returned to Santa Cruz to restock and created 100+ individual food supply bags to distribute.
The next day, the ROWW team had two large distributions in Bluefields and Burnt Savannah. The team was able to distribute approximately 330 families between all the supply drops. On the last day, our team gathered all remaining supplies and distributed them to elderly individuals in Burnt Savannah, Burton, and Lacovia.
On November 15th, the ROWW team departed Jamaica. We are grateful to our donors, our volunteers, and the people of Jamaica for all of their hard work and support. We could not have done it without you!
The work here is far from done and we’ve kept our donation link live – 100% of the funds raised will go straight to ROWW’s efforts in Jamaica.
