In early July 2025, parts of North Carolina experienced severe flooding caused by heavy rainfall from Tropical Storm Chantel. Immediately following the active flooding, ROWW deployed a team to the Chapel Hill/Durham area. The mission was to perform muck and gut operations to the homes of the victims and remove fallen debris from the surrounding areas. Mucking out a home down the the framing after flooding gives it the best chance to dry out and not rot.
Our volunteers worked tirelessly in 100-degree weather to provide support to the victims of the floods. They worked in saw teams to cut away fallen trees from driveways, yards, and local roads. With roads cleared and debris removed, the focus then shifted to mucking, gutting, and rebuilding. ROWW received a request from the local Fire Chief to help build a handicap ramp for one of the homeowners.
ROWW wrapped up the deployment on July 18th with 588 volunteer hours. Our team of 7 volunteers completed 13 muck and gut jobs over the 9-day span. ROWW is incredibly grateful to the community in Chapel Hill, NC that came together to get the job done!
