Hurricane Beryl, a Category 4-5 with winds up to 150mph, made landfall on Jul 1, 2024. Initial impact was in the Caribbean Islands. The island of Carriacou in Grenada was virtually “flattened” by this hurricane. Hurricane Beryl hit roads on the island making them impassable and communications completely down. The storm also caused widespread damage on the neighboring islands of Petite Martinique, Petite St. Vincent and Union Island. Island officials confirmed multiple fatalities and numerous injuries.
Seeing the need for the Islands to have communication with emergency teams, ROWW made contact with SpaceX for Starlink internet kits. ROWW’s mission was to get a number of these units to the affected areas to help establish communications where both government officials and the public can utilize and inform others of their situations.
Over the 4 day deployment, our team traveled to multiple islands and distributed the Starlink kits. Additionally, ROWW assisted with unloading a yacht filled with much needed essentials including several 1,000 gallon water tanks. Our team established communications with each location we dropped a Starlink with and will continue to work with them regarding their future communication requirements where necessary.
